Starring Raj Kumar Rao
Why did we choose a movie to talk about the how to work from home?
- Movies are visual memory and as it is said, “A picture speaks a thousand words”. So if not a million words from the movie it will definitely help us understand and draw inspiration during these times.
- Additionally we thought to focus of some edutainment, which is educating and making you all aware through some movies which are entertaining.
Story outline:
Trapped is the manifestation of one of those jokes that you’d toss around among your friends, with a subconscious satisfaction within that this would never happen to you. We have grown so apathetic to our surroundings that we never care to give a second thought to the hundreds of things that could go wrong leaving us in an undesirable situation. Shaurya, played by Raj Kumar Rao, is desperately on the look-out for an apartment. After gathering a lot of courage he has finally been able to pour his heart out to his crush – Noori (played by Geetanjali Thapa). To show his commitment towards this newfound relationship, he proposes that he would get out of his dingy, shared apartment and find a new one where they could live together. Dejected after being dismissed by several brokers, he comes across a young man who is more than willing to help him out. Even though you have this feeling that something is amiss, things turn out to be normal and Shaurya moves into a newly constructed apartment in an empty high-rise. He is, however, the only tenant in the whole building which is embroiled in a legal dispute, due to which the possessions never kicked off. Unaffected by those trivial technicalities, Shaurya counts himself lucky to have found the flat in the most opportune moment. Little does he know that he was about to find himself in an urban nightmare. The next morning as he is just about to leave to meet Noori and bring her back to the place, he realizes that he has left his mobile phone inside the apartment. In a hurry, he leaves the keys hanging in the lock outside and runs in to grab his phone. At this fateful moment, a gust of wind pushes the door shut and locked for good. Shaurya rushes back to the door only to find himself trapped in an apartment on one of the topmost floors in an empty building!
Why are we telling you the Storyline?
- Because it is important to get the premise right of the movie if in-case you haven’t watched it to understand what we are relating to.
- Or if you are unable to recollect the movie even if you have watched it.
Learnings from the movie which will help us in this situation:
- I hope you remember the story of two frogs who has jumped in a jar of milk, while one had given up and drowned into the jar while the other kept stirring had made sure that it turned the milk into butter in-order to jump out of the jar. Even here at first Raj Kumar Rao (Shaurya- in the movie), was very happy that he had found an apartment to stay and that he was going to move-in with the love of his life. Everything was also fine till he went in-side the house to get his wallet and to his surprise he got lock-in the house. Question is did he know that he will be locked-in? Was he prepared for the locked-in? The answered to both of the question is negative: Nor did he anticipate and neither was he prepared!
- Did the same thing happen with us? Were we actually prepared for a long lockdown? The answer to this is also negative.
- But did Shaurya survive with no basic resources such as water, electricity, food etc. The answer for this is positive.
- The thing is we have all the resources, comfort of our homes and love of our loved ones under the same roof. Are we surviving? Yes. but are we happy? Why the answer to this is a NO? The basic thing with Shaurya was that he had no control or power with his situation, but do we have access to all the resources? Yes why not… then if he could make it till the end with no help. Why can’t we do it will all the possible help?
- We need to understand that changing the perspective here is important- meaning we have all things that we need to survive in the house. Of-course we don’t majorly have a say in managing out outside world, but can we make our inside world happy and awesome! I feel the answer is positive!
- Shaurya had no food and electricity for days, as the building was newly constructed and other things. Did he sit for some help to come to him? Negative. Did he try to survive inside the house, may it be any way? Positive. He hunts for pigeons, eats whatever he gets in the house; while watching the movie it looks very gross. But did he learn new ways to survive and cope up? Positive.
- We don’t have to learn to hunt at least or change our food choices all together. We just have to stay happy and learn to cope up with the situation more maturely.
- As we do not have lot of control on things, like the apathetic news, depressing post, threating message alerts, but do we have a choice from refraining to see them! Positive and can we stop ourselves form posting the same on social media while making other lives also happier! Positive. We can control what we watch and what we circulate. Let’s be positive and keep calm and send vibes only.
- Then as anyone would panic, Shaurya did it too! He screamed his lungs out, dropped his TV set, burnt his clothes etc. did he receive any help? Negative. Was it normal in his case? Positive.
- Questions is the anxiety & panic normal? Positive but why are we doing the same things are Shaurya did to get attention. When we can get it through a call away.
- Why can’t we make the most out of this situation and ameliorate it to learn somethings that will help you get a job after the lockdown is over, Skills that will help you promote yourself to the next level, learn a skill that will enhance your business, make business plan which was always taking a backseat.
- There are so many mental health professional taking online counseling, why not get in touch with these organizations before taking any grave step! The help is very easy, you only have to ask for it.
- Lastly did Shaurya start his routine life once again? Was everything normal? Positive. Did he lost and found himself? Was it a happy ending movie? Positive.
- The thing is we are looking at this situation as crisis situation, and thus it is making things difficult for us to handle.
- Can we look at it as an opportunity to show our best? Can we build important qualities of Patience and Empathy? Patience for the lockdown to get over and Empathy because we are going to need a lot of it post we join our workplaces back.
- We could always also use this time to revisit our happy times and remember them, as it said Relish & Live while it lasts!
Conclusion: The movie is great watch! And we need to wear different glasses to see different point of views at the same situation to make us strong and worthy of surviving! Because being fighters may not always mean being at war, staying indoors, taking care of your loved ones and re- arranging yourself can also mean the same.
Because, we will all come back to this phases of lives and talk about it, why not create an inspirational story!
